According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, almost 30% of individuals living in Oxley are classified as “professionals”, with many of these braving the commute to the CBD daily. So why are they choosing to call this suburb home?

Oxley is only 10 kilometres from Brisbane city, making it the perfect base for those wanting to enjoy the calm of suburbia whilst making the most of the employment opportunities CBD.

Affordability may also be driving both homeowners and renters to this suburb. Made up of 88% houses, Oxley is a great choice for home-buyers, with the median house price sitting at $577,500.

Home size also potentially plays a role in the decision to move to the suburbs. In Oxley, the number of homes with three bedrooms is 50.1%, which is higher again than both the state (39.7%) and national (41.1%) averages. In addition to home size, suburbs like Oxley have aspects such as schools, parks and shopping districts which create a great community feel.

Lastly, Oxley has excellent transport facilities, which allow professionals to commute relatively easily to the CBD. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, 17.6% of Oxley residents travel to work by public transport. This figure is significantly higher than both the state and national averages, which sit at 7.1% and 11.5% respectively. In Oxley, much of the suburb is within walking distance of a bus stop or the train station.

For those commuting by car, the morning traffic can often mean the commute from Oxley to the city takes up to an hour. Interestingly enough, despite Oxley having seamless public transport services, 65.8% of commuters still choose to travel to work by car. This is likely because of the easy connections to nearby motorways, such as the Ipswich Motorway. It may also be that these professionals are required to use their vehicle during their work day or need to reach areas that our public transport network may not service.

However they get to the city, it seems that that plenty of commuters have embraced this suburb. It’s affordability, combined with good schools, relaxed lifestyle and excellent public transport make Oxley the perfect place to call home.
