A fresh coat of paint on your home can give it a brand new look and feel.

When it comes to choosing which colour to paint your home, it’s crucial that it’s on trend and won’t date, especially if you’re considering selling your property.

This goes for both the exterior, interior and any feature walls throughout your house.

We caught up with Bernadette Smith, one of the Dulux Colour Consultants, to hear her top three tips when considering repainting your home.

Tip 1: Whites and neutrals

When choosing your interior wall colour, Bernadette says “it’s important to take into consideration all the existing elements that are in your home.

These elements need the paint colour to compliment them. Something to remember is our wall colour should be the backdrop for our homes interior style.”

Tip 2: Feature walls

Feature walls can come in many shapes & forms. From paint to paintable wallpaper, to decorative wall paper and even oversized pieces of artwork.

When choosing your feature walls some handy tips would be to consider using colours that are a few shades darker than your wall current colour. This helps to keep the space light and bright, but also defines the areas.

“If you’re using a bold accent colour sometimes repeating it in another area of your house can help to pull the colour palette together,” says Bernadette.

Tip 3: Exterior Colours

Colours within our neutrals and grey tones are still very popular colour schemes amongst home owners. These colour trends have been around for many years.

Bernadette has noticed a trend appearing with home owners moving towards the earthy colour tones on homes. “These soften the exterior of the home which complements the surrounding.”
