How to soak up the last days of summer in Brisbane

As quickly as it arrived, summer is on its way out and we’re simply not ready to let it pass without enjoying every last moment. Keen to make the most of these final few balmy days? Soak up all that summer has to offer with these fabulous experiences around Brisbane.

For the food and drink-lovers

Brisbane is home to a delightful collection of rooftop bars and restaurants and summer is the prime time to discover them for yourselves. Looking out across the sparkling Brisbane River to leafy South Bank beyond, the W Brisbane’s Wet Deck invites you to enjoy refreshing cocktails, mesmerising views and a dip in its 20-metre-long plunge pool for Sundaze at Wet Deck (until February 27).

Just a leisurely stroll away, the Hyatt Regency’s Hibiscus Room is a slice of paradise in Queen Street Mall. Expect delicious drinks, mouth-watering bites and chilled beats. Want more? Hop across the river and watch the sun set at South Bank’s newly opened Catalina Rooftop Restaurant.

If you’re more interested in enjoying one particular concoction, don’t miss the incredible National Margarita Day (February 22) celebrations taking place across the city. Add to the list Fortitude Valley’s MAYA Mexican and Osbourne Hotel, as well as Bowen Hills’ El Camino Cantina and Rita’s Tequila and Taqueria in Teneriffe. Or, if you prefer your drinks a little more simple, find your new favourite brew in the sunshine at Eaton’s Hills Hotel’s 9th Annual Beer Fest (February 26).

For the culture-fiends

One of the best ways to experience summer in Brisbane is by floating along the magnificent Brisbane River. Do just that when you book a Tides of Brisbane Boat Tour with the Museum of Brisbane. Lead by the museum’s experts, you will learn all about the city’s First Nations people, its iconic buildings, early convict history and colourful characters.

Adding to it all are stops at the beautiful City Botanic Gardens and Sea Legs Brewing Co. Also run by MoB, a guided Public Art Walking Tour will help you uncover all the exceptional artworks peppered across the city.

Looking to unwind while getting your culture fix? Each Friday, Newstead’s The Triffid showcases original performances from local singer-songwriters in its greenery-fringed Beer Garden. How lovely!

For the fitness-fans

Take inspiration from the warmer weather and join one of the free Medibank Feel Good Program classes on offer at the South Bank Parklands (until April 2). There’s everything from Pilates to Bollywood dancing and Tai Chi to enjoy – friendly reminder, the summer-ready Streets Beach is ideal for cooling off afterwards. A scenic CityCat ride away, Howard Smith Wharves is also running mid-week yoga sessions by the river in collaboration with the renowned Sukhino. What better place to nail that perfect stretch?

For those wanting to go at their own pace, explore the amazing collection of walking tracks dotted across Brisbane. Cherished for its picturesque creek and sensational wildlife, Boondall Wetland’s Tabbil-ban Dha-gun boardwalk will not disappoint. Other brilliant options include Toohey Forest’s Mount Gravatt Outlook-Reserve Summit Track and the new Indooroopilly Riverwalk.

For the families

Promising to win over kids both small and large, Aqua Splash at Redcliffe’s Pelican Park offers an epic adventure! Set within a clean and protected swimming area, this phenomenal attraction features giant inflatable slides, runways, bouncers, jumping pillows, swings and trampolines.

A little more laid-back, South Bank’s free and family-friendly Sunday Social on the Green pairs live music with idyllic river views. In nearby West End, the fashionable West Village precinct hosts free arts and crafts activities Monday to Wednesday. Allowing little ones to get hands-on, their Creative Kids workshops take place in the precinct’s charming Village Hut and grassy surrounds. See you there!
