Brisbane Powerhouse to open night markets

A true Brisbane icon, New Farm’s Brisbane Powerhouse is about to become even more exciting following the reveal of four new incredible offerings.

A haven for live music, comedy and theatre, the venue is about to become home to an outdoor cinema, an immersive art installation, an al fresco theatre and a special night market. Add this to the ‘one to watch’ list!

Kicking it all off on August 12, Kaleidoscope from artist Keith Courtney will be an interactive artwork created from glass, steel, mirrors and moving prisms. Inviting visitors to navigate a maze of corridors on Brisbane Powerhouse’s lawn, this phenomenal offering promises to mesmerise both the young and the young at heart.

From October, the Pleasuredome will be the place to go to see live performances in the great outdoors. Set to host everything from concerts and circus to stand-up comedy and cabaret, the semi-permanent al-fresco theatre made from beautiful sailcloth will be available for the public to relax in when not in use.

One for cinema fans, Brisbane Powerhouse’s new Outdoor Cinema will open this Spring for year-round movies under the stars. Taking place in front of the theatre’s well-known Stores Building, this fabulous offering will include blockbusters, arthouse screenings, concerts and film festivals. Date night, anyone?

Last but definitely not least, the new month-long Hap Wah Night Market will thrill foodies and culture-lovers alike when it launches in early 2023. Fusing Cantonese cultural references with a touch of Bladerunner-inspired style, the twice-yearly market will transform the venue’s forecourt and surrounding parklands into a culinary wonderland.

Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner says there will be plenty to impress visitors.

“Our $1 million investment, along with Federal Government support, will provide the start-up funds to create ongoing cultural events at Brisbane Powerhouse,” said Schrinner.

The Powerhouse is a must-visit destination for tourists as well as a treasure for locals and this new outdoor offering will have something for all ages and interests.”
