Lisa Perruzza Art, International Women's Day

Making a name for themselves in Brisbane’s homewares, art and design industries, a spectacular array of female-lead businesses and creatives are crushing it in 2022.

In the lead-up to International Women’s Day (March 8), we’ve gathered a collection of outstanding talents that you should keep an eye out for when building or updating your home.

Meredith Howse – Meredith Howse Art

Inspired by Queensland’s landscapes, award-winning contemporary artist Meredith Howse is known for her incredible use of colour and Alla Prima technique.

Featured on Channel Nine’s The Block and found in many sophisticated homes, her works are a celebration of natural beauty. Case in point: in 2016, Howse followed the Brisbane River from its origins at Mount Stanley to its end at Moreton Bay, creating an exhibition of 30 paintings along the way. Her collections also include subjects such as blossoming jacarandas, Noosa's Fairy Pools and Bardon streetscapes.

Eva Porter – Porter Landscape Designs

Establishing herself in a highly competitive industry, Eva Porter created Porter Landscaped Designs in 2013 to connect people with the land through exceptional design.

Transforming home gardens in both Brisbane and Toowoomba into stunning outdoor retreats, the landscape architect also works with communities to bring to life extraordinary public spaces.

Anna O’Gorman – Anna O’Gorman Architects

Focused on designing with integrity, Anna O’Gorman Architects is an approachable and acclaimed team of multi-disciplinary architects that craft truly phenomenal projects.

Led by its namesake since 2016 and taking out a slew of impressive titles (including the 2021 AIA Brisbane Regional Architect Award for Sustainable Architecture), the talented group boasts a marvellous resume; the striking Northshore Pavilion and Anne Street Garden Villas are just two examples that highlight AOA’s bold and thoughtful vision.

Sophia Klemenz-Ghandem - Klemenza

A home-styling haven in Paddington’s fashionable Latrobe Terrace, Klemenza is an Aladdin’s cave of exquisite furniture, homewares and décor. The brainchild of globe-trotting Director Sophia Klemenz-Ghanem, the boutique showcases pieces from renowned designers based around the world. Not stopping there, Klemenza is also a full-service design studio specialising in styling, interior design and project management.

Behind it all is Klemenz-Ghandem’s love of sharing her travel experiences and memories.

Louise Roche – Villa Styling Studio

Synonymous with bright and airy spaces, Moreton Bay-based Villa Styling Studio is a creative styling and photography group famed for its luxurious coastal aesthetic.

With over 150,000 followers on Instagram, VSS is guided by Creative Director and Owner Louise Roche. Using her 25-plus years’ experience in marketing and interiors, Roche and her team take on each project with a personal touch that has garnered them attention from the likes of Home Beautiful Magazine, Australian Women’s Weekly and Wall Street Journal.

Lisa Perruzza – Lisa Perruzza Art

We’ll admit, we have a soft spot for this remarkable creative. Also a go-getting Business Development Manager and Partner with Place Bulimba, Lisa Perruzza is a brilliant mixed-media artist who uses shapes, colours and lines to create contemporary abstract paintings that complement homes, offices and workspaces.

Influenced by her childhood in Northern England’s scenic Lake District, Perruzza’s works feature intricate designs and patterns that attract the eye and capture the imagination.

Anna Spiro – Anna Spiro Design

Easily one of Brisbane’s most well-known creatives, Anna Spiro sets the standard for contemporary elegance with a touch of old-world charm. Creative Director of prominent interior design studio Anna Spiro Design, the Brisbane local has reimagined a delightful collection of homes and popular venues like Mr Percival’s, Halcyon House Hotel and Naga Thai.

A champion of colour and texture, Spiro also co-owns Anna Spiro Textiles with her brother Sam and creates hand-crafted textiles and wallpapers.
