If there’s one décor trend that’s promising to stick around, it’s adorning your home with leafy natural greenery. Proven to help improve air quality and your own health, indoor plants suit essentially any type of residence but it’s important to choose ones that will actually thrive in the Brisbane climate. A little overwhelmed? Here are some essential tips to get you started…

What to buy

Popular for a reason, Fiddle Leaf Figs and Rubber Plants look amazing in most rooms and can handle tropical climates wonderfully. The only things to keep in mind with these beauties is keeping them out of direct sunlight and their potential to grow really tall.

Another Insta-friendly plant that thrives on humidity is the gorgeous Monstera Deliciosa or ‘Swiss cheese plant’ – embellish your abode with these for instant tropical vibes! If you’re after something that needs barely any attention at all, choose the creeping Devil’s Ivy or Zanzibar Gem. Both are incredibly low-maintenance and have extraordinary air purifying abilities. And, of course, it’s pretty hard to go wrong with a cluster of potted Succulents – these charming plants are brilliant for filling small, awkward spaces. How clever, indeed.

Where to go

If you’re plant-shopping on the south side, discover the sensational range at Brookfield Gardens (their Wild Canary café is also definitely worth a visit). Oxley Nursery and Rocklea’s Sunday Discovery Markets also have plenty to offer, while Mappins Nursery in West End is a go-to for those a little closer to the CBD.

Based on the north side? Check out Windsor’s City Farm Nursery, Carseldine’s Eden Gardens and Stafford’s Soul Pantry. Also worth a mention is Jungle Collective’s sensational pop-up events that are hosted across Brisbane. Known for their exceptional range of plants, this outstanding group will even take $5 off your bill when you wear a Hawaiian shirt – time to raid the wardrobe!
