If you love seeing a property before and after being transformed into its full glory, check out this stunning five bedroom masterpiece in Seven Hills. 12 months of planning and renovating has seen the restoration of this home’s unique and original features, with some added exceptional upgrades… wine cellar included.

Homeowner, Aaron Love, was drawn in by the original property’s bay windows, balcony and exterior weatherboarding, and decided to renovate the home as a passion project.

Before the renovation commenced, Aaron had to get a development application to the council in order to change exterior aspects such as the garage. He was told that any changes made to the exterior had to keep with the aesthetics of the original house, and had to be coherent with the features of the surrounding houses on the street.

“If you want to add funky things to a home with character then you’ll get knocked back. That being said, as long as the changes are in tune with other properties in the street, you’ll be okay. If other people can do it, you can do it,” says Aaron.

It was crucial to get the initial design right before moving any soil. After nutting out the layout between himself and his mates, Aaron found the overall process to be quite seamless. This involved moving the house back by 12 meters, along with raising it by 3.8 meters.

“It was weird seeing a house on a massive truck, but we managed to move it forward, and eventually got all the blocks and steel work underneath to raise it.”

“It’s certainly easier to build than do a reno, but you definitely reep the rewards when it comes to fruition,” he says.

Place Bulimba agent, James Curtain, visited Aaron at the property as construction had commenced, and gave Aaron one piece of advice that he maintained throughout the renovation. “If you’re going to go with the Hamptons theme, you must make sure you stick to it from start to finish. Some people make the exterior Hamptons, but then modernise the inside. You must keep it cohesive throughout”.

The second lounge room had a decorative ceiling, which Aaron decided to make the hub of the home, and draw all design inspiration from that aspect. “It was the first thing you see as you walk up the stairs, and it had such an impact on me. From then, everything was designed around that one part of the home.”

However, Aaron found that his ideas did evolve and change with the building process. The biggest example of this was completely changing the colour of the home after its first coat of paint, and eventually settling on a ‘flooded gum’ shade to give the property its due justice.

As for his sources of inspiration, Aaron says to never underestimate Pinterest. Along with the help of an interior designer (and input from his girlfriend), the resulting hamptons masterpiece speaks for itself.
