Hawthorne has an abundance to offer families with teenagers.

From reputable high schools to recreational weekend activities, this suburb oozes appeal for generation Z; a term used to describe the demographic of individuals born in 1996 and the years preceding.

Over 19% of Hawthorne’s residents are teenagers or young adults belonging to generation Z, and the suburb certainly meets their every need.

But what exactly is it that this age group (or more importantly, their parents) look for in a suburb?

Lourdes Hill College for girls and Anglican Church Grammar School for boys are both highly regarded high schools, sought after throughout Brisbane. Both private schools are located conveniently close to the Brisbane River, offering a range of co-curricular activities from rowing to debating. With great education options on their doorstep, it’s no wonder parents of Brisbane teenagers choose to make Hawthorne their home.

Hawthorne is also full of recreational facilities - it’s lucky enough to be home to the Jack Esplen Oval, the base camp of The Morningside Panthers AFL Club. The local AFL club caters for all age groups, providing a great sporting and community experience. The oval is not only home to the AFL club, but also supports community activity and events through its restaurant and function room. Teenage boys have the perfect weekend destination to be social and active in their resident suburb.

Riding Road is Hawthorne’s hub for shopping and dining. Home to popular boutiques such as Little Red Dress and everyone’s favourite local cafe, Hawthorne Garage, it provides the perfect weekend location to catch up with friends. You won’t only find shops and cafes galore on Riding Road, but also the Hawthorne Cineplex. Showing the latest and greatest in Hollywood cinema, and hosting a killer candy selection, it’s the teenage dream date night.

Hawthorne also has an abundance of convenient public transport options, such as numerous bus stops and a great ferry terminal, all of which have direct city routes. Being only 3km from Brisbane’s CBD, Hawthorne has a great central location, making transport convenient - even on your L plates.

Place Bulimba Agent, Chris Rice elaborates. “One of the main attractions to families is the unique community feel, which comes from the enclosed space the suburb occupies between the river and Wynnum Road. It’s a community within a community, and is self-sustained with shops, supermarkets, cinemas, parks and great schools, all in walking distance. Combined with some of the best streets for views and direct river access, it is a very special part of our city.”

With such great lifestyle opportunities and its convenient location, teenagers are lucky to grow up in this suburb. Parents - good luck getting them to move out!
