Fran and Mark Rook started beekeeping in Moggill around six years ago with two hives.

What started out as a hobby has become a thriving business, with Moggill Honey now owning over 200 hives around Brisbane and Toowoomba!

“You should support the local honey community because you’re helping local businesses and local families to have employment in the local area and the local honey is much better than imported honey,” explains Fran.

She says the taste and look of the honey varies depending on the location and plants available for the bees in that area.

Their honey is named after the locations of their hives, with names including Moggill Montage, Beachmere Bliss and Pullenvale Pleasure.

We catch up with Fran and Mark, while they check out their Pullenvale hives, to find out why they love beekeeping and why it’s so important for the environment.

Thanks to Mark Rook for providing us with the awesome bee cover photo!
