Place League 2022: Wrapped

Community is at the heart of what we do at our Place, and this starts with creating a fantastic work culture.

Annually, our Place people participate in Place League, an initiative by Place HQ where team building is high and people's sporting abilities really get to shine!

This year's sport of choice was Beach Volley Ball, and after many fun and sometimes even competitive rounds, the Place Woolloongabba team took home the Place League Trophy.

We spoke to some of our Place League players, who captured what playing this year meant to them.

Why do you think it’s important to be a part of office sports?

"I believe it is important to get involved and participate in office sports as it allows you to bond with colleagues and staff members whom you usually don’t get to interact with, and you get to take some time away from the work environment and just have fun." - Yani Bekker, Lead Agent, Place Annerley.

"It is so incredible to bond with your office and other colleagues outside of the traditional work environments. It allows you to talk and celebrate victories with people you might not talk to very often." - Piper Fleming, Executive Assistant, Place Woolloongabba.

"You get to see another side to employees as it's more of a casual environment. It’s not work talk or sales talk, it is 'how’s your weekend?' or 'what have you been up to?' It's a great way to make real connections with your colleagues!" - Tatum Green, HR Coordinator, Place HQ.

What was a highlight for you during Place League this year?

"Winning the competition! Beating Kangaroo Point... just kidding! All the fun we had with our big team." - Angela Curtain, Office Manager, Place Woolloongabba.

"My highlight was seeing everyone get hyped up about the game and working together as a team." - Yelda Kostelekoglu, Customer Service and Agent Support, Place Gumdale.

"The highlight for me was just getting competitive and sticking as a team when playing." - Tiana Scriggins, Customer Service and Agent Support, Place Gumdale.

"Being able to actually hit the ball over the net... and also seeing the wonderful Woolloongabba team win!" - Nadine Burt, HR Coordinator, Place HQ.

What would you say to someone who is ‘on the fence’ about participating in a team sport at work?

"Do it! Its all about fun and everyone gets a go." - Angela Curtain, Office Manager, Place Woolloongabba.

"Just do it! It is the best mental break from work and you will have endless laughs with your fellow work colleagues. You will also make so many incredible memories." - Piper Fleming, Executive Assistant, Place Woolloongabba.

"Jump right into it. You seriously won’t regret it. You don’t have to be the next Michael Jordan or Serena Williams to join. It’s all just for a laugh." - Tyra Grimwade, Events Support, Place HQ

"To get involved! If playing sports isn't for you, just coming along to be a spectator is such a fantastic way to participate and show your office spirit." - Nadine Burt, HR Coordinator, Place HQ.

What were the benefits of participating in Place League for you?

"This year, Place Annerley joined with Place Woolloongabba which was a great experience as I’ve been able to form new friendships with everyone in the Gabba Team. It was also a great experience getting to know people from the other offices whom we competed against." - Yani Bekker, Lead Agent, Place Annerley.

"Having fun in a more relaxed environment with my colleagues." - Matt Langfield, Lead Agent, Place Woolloongabba

"Getting to finally put a name to the face of so many new Place employees!" - Piper Fleming, Executive Assistant, Place Woolloongabba.

"Getting close to everyone and seeing everyone work together" - Yelda Kostelekoglu, Customer Service and Agent Support, Place Gumdale.

"There were so many benefits - lots of laughs and lots of new friendships formed." - Tyra Grimwade, Events Support, Place HQ
