Top seven home-styling trends for 2022

It’s that time of the year again, when interior designers and home-design enthusiasts get excited to discover all the trends that will be filling our feeds.

Revealing exactly what people have been searching for, the annual Pinterest Predicts Report has uncovered a plethora of sensational trends for 2022.

Hellenistic revival

Perhaps it’s due to our lack of travelling lately or because of our love of fashionable venues such as Hellenika and Greca, but it seems more of us are adding a touch of Greek flair to our homes. Think Corinthian columns, Hellenic-style statues and Aphrodite-inspired wallpaper. Mix in with calming neutral tones, plush textures and stone accents to keep things contemporary and sophisticated.

Limitless luxe

In 2022, home-owners are wanting to go bigger, bolder and more luxurious than ever. No longer confined to a property’s main living areas, opulent designs are being featured in everything from laundries to powder rooms and garages. To achieve the look, seek out premium finishes, materials and décor. Metallic accents are also have spectacular impact, making a simple space a lavish sanctuary.

Barkitecture

It’s no secret that during the recent Covid-19 lockdowns, pet ownership in Australia saw a massive increase. So, of course we’d want to make our abodes as fur-baby-friendly as possible! Terms like ‘luxury dog room’ and ‘cat house design’ have been on the rise, while many Pinterest-users also sought out ways to transform existing furniture into new pet beds. Other fantastic ideas include purpose-built dog baths in laundries, as well as pet-feeding stations in kitchens.

Biophilic designs

We’re lovers of indoor-outdoor living, here in Brisbane. Now, the idea has blossomed into an amazing trend and our homes are looking all the more beautiful for it. Greenery walls, floral ceilings and staircase gardens are new terms to keep an eye out for, but embracing this trend can also be as easy as using bi-fold and stacked glass sliding doors to connect your central living area to your backyard.

Emotional escape rooms

If the frustrations of isolation and working from home has taught us anything, it’s that retreating to your own little ‘happy Place’ for a few minutes can do wonders for your productivity and mental wellbeing.

Following on from this, Pinterest-users are searching for ‘emotional escape room’ ideas inspired by calming past-times. Cosy reading nooks adorned with beloved books and crystal-filled hideaways that evoke a sense of tranquillity are big right now, as are music-themed rooms that allow you to chill out with your favourite album. Luxury-lovers, home massage rooms are also now totally a thing. Look it up.

Curve appeal

It seems our obsession with curves isn’t going anywhere anytime soon and it suits us just fine. Soft-edged kitchen islands, rounded pools, curved furniture, archways and crescent-like walls are all over Pinterest and Instagram for a reason. If you’ve been attracted to the trend but have been hesitant to dive in, here’s your cue to go all-out and embrace the curve.

Check patterns

An eye-catching look that has taken over the fashion and nail-art worlds, check patterns are also creeping their way into home design trends. Keep things simple but delightful with checked décor: rugs, vases and cushions are popular options. Or, make a statement and showcase the striking pattern in your indoor or outdoor tiling.
