One of Brisbane’s most prestigious riverfront blocks has never had a mansion, a tennis court or a trophy home. For more than three decades, its only residents have been horses.
The 12,789sqm block at 526 Jesmond Road, Fig Tree Pocket offers three stables, a tack room, separate paddocks, mature trees and a front-row position on the Brisbane River, with around 60 metres of river frontage.
The property is in a tightly held pocket popular with high-profile businesspeople, giving its four-legged residents some rather notable neigh-bours.
Sandy Casey and her family bought the property with plans to one day build their dream home.
“We already had our family home just down the road, and in the end, I could never quite part with it,” Mrs Casey said.
“So, the horses had the riverfront lifestyle instead. They’ve probably had the best address in Brisbane.”
The Casey family originally kept their own horses on the property after their daughters became involved in riding and show horses. In more recent years, the stables have been leased to other local horse owners, with three horses now kept on the site.
“It has been a wonderful place for horses, with the pony club just down the road and plenty of room for them to be kept so close to the city,” Mrs Casey said.
While Mrs Casey once imagined a home on the land, she said her vision was never for an oversized trophy house.
“I always liked the idea of something simple and elegant, with clean lines that made the most of the river outlook,” Mrs Casey said.
“But that’s the beauty of a block like this. The next owner can bring their own vision to it.”
Place Camp Hill selling agent Julia Doyle said the listing was already stirring up interest because of its mix of prestige, scale and backstory.
“It’s not every day a Brisbane riverfront block comes to market where the only residents have been horses,” Ms Doyle said.
“It has the river frontage, the privacy, the established trees and the kind of address people hold onto for generations.”
Ms Doyle said the property offered buyers a chance to create a private riverfront residence with a point of difference.
“This isn’t a standard vacant block; it’s more than three acres of land on one of Brisbane’s most prestigious riverfront strips. It has character, history and a story people immediately remember.”
“The next owner has the chance to create something very special here, whether that is a beautiful architectural home designed around the river outlook, or a substantial family residence that makes the most of the privacy, space and setting,” she said.
The property is being sold via top offer, closing Tuesday, October 20 at 2pm.
