Though the temperature is still what we Queenslanders like to call freezing, in no time at all you’ll be throwing on a swimsuit and laying out the towels.

Paul Hingst from Pool Culture says pools often lie forgotten in the winter months, and because of this, there can be some issues if you don’t check it before you’re ready to swim in summer.

But never fear - Paul has some easy tips to get your pool ready for the warmer weather.

Tip 1: Check the chemicals

Paul says that checking the chemicals is really important when it comes to preparing your pool for summer.

If chemicals are out of balance, the slightest little thing can turn it green!

Take your water down to your local pool shop to get it tested and find out what you need to do to get your chemicals back in order.

Tip 2: Check your equipment

Like anything which hasn’t been used for a while, pool equipment can lock up or stop working over the winter.

Be sure to check your pool cleaner and your salt water chlorinator because these are often forgotten.

Tip 3: Check your filter

Lastly, check your filter to make sure it’s functioning correctly.

Do you need to refresh the media in the unit? Now is the time to check.

Paul says the last thing you want is to be all ready to swim but have a filter that isn’t working.

Get your pool already in advance so you can dive right in when the warm weather hits!
