Deep clean your home this Spring

Whether you’re prepping your home for sale or it’s time for a new season ‘freshen up’, there’s nothing quite like a good spring clean!

While you may have a list of cleaning tasks to tick off your spring-cleaning list, complete it with a few of these deep cleaning musts.

Living Room and common areas

Usually the most cherished and utilised room in a home, the living room and the common areas that surround this central part of the home can be filled with opportunities for a deep clean! While cleaning items such as couch cushions, linen and carpets may be the more obvious choice for items to clean in your living room, other items such as light switches, behind the television unit, gaming consoles, air-conditioning filters and television remotes can all be easy collectors of dust and germs.

Be sure to also inspect the walls in your home for any signs of aging or mould. Check out our blog on effective tips for fighting mould in your home here.

Kitchen

Spring is the perfect time to attend to any cleaning tasks that you usually don’t do every day. If you’re looking to deep clean your kitchen, consider cleaning under and behind the fridge, the oven, the dishwasher filter, the exterior and interior of your appliances (including descaling your kettle), giving the walls and shelves in your pantry a wipe down and cleaning kitchen cabinets and handles. Keeping these items in your home tidy and clean will not only keep your space fresh, but it can also prolong their lifespan.

Bedroom

While stripping the bed and putting away your day-to-day items and clothes may be part of your regular cleaning routine, when it comes to deep cleaning your bedroom, this consists of vacuuming and flipping your mattress (if required), pushing aside your bed to clean underneath it, using a microfibre cloth to wipe down all surfaces and taking the clothes out of the closet so that you can wipe down the closet shelves and walls. This can of course double up as a chance to go through any clothes that you may wish to donate.

Bathroom

It’s important to keep up with a regular bathroom cleaning schedule as it is an easy spot for mould and grime to build up. Deep cleaning items include removing any scum from the showerhead, taps and faucets, giving your shower caddies a good wipe down and disinfecting your shower curtains or replacing them, if need be. Another bathroom item that usually skips a clean is the exhaust fan, which you can clean by vacuuming away the dust and using a damp microfiber cloth to wipe down the fan components.

Outdoor area

Move your spring cleaning outdoors and get busy cleaning the gutters, sweeping and hosing down your outdoor patio and removing dust and any built-up grime on any patio or deck ceilings. If your home features a wooden deck, this is a great opportunity to inspect if it is lifting in any spots or needs a fresh coat of deck stain.
