The Chelmer Station Community Kindy Lantern Parade for 2018 was the biggest so far!

Back for its fifth year, parents and kids from around Brisbane gathered at the Graceville Netball Courts on June 22 for this wonderful tradition.

The event is inspired from a German tradition which happens in winter. Local kindergartens join together and parade through the streets of their villages to celebrate St Martin’s Day.

Past kindy mum Carolin Holl brought the tradition with her when she migrated from Germany because she didn’t want her kids to miss out.

With over 400 people parading this year, attendees enjoyed delicious and traditional German food beforehand made by Carolin - yum!

There were big lanterns and small; bought lanterns and those made with a little bit of innovation; milk cartons, soft drink bottles and paper bags.

Before the lights went off, kids ran around chewing on gingerbread men and dancing to live music.

There were smiles on every face, and we already can’t wait for next year!
