Since 1875, the Brisbane Showgrounds have been an iconic Queensland landmark. For 140 years, people have flocked to Brisbane's historic show-grounds to celebrate Queensland lifestyle, local produce and home grown talent.

This old soul has become the new heart of Bowen Hills with construction of the King Street development. Not only does this development provide the suburbs 3,226 residents, workers and visitors with total convenience, but it’s also predicted to provide substantial financial income and job generation within the next five years.

Offering dining, services and shopping at the core of Bowen Hills, King Street is developed with 9,917sqm of specialty retail, complete with a 1,361sqm supermarket and five-level car park.

According to developers, Lendlease, local residents will spend an estimated $1.8billion across the 36 retailers by 2021. This prediction highlights the demand and popularity of inner city lifestyle developments in Brisbane.

In addition, it’s expected that the King Street precinct will have placed 29,000 workers within the primary trade area by 2021. Not only does this create more jobs, but it also adds to the financial income for the precinct, with these workers predicted to spend $294.9 million annually on retail.

What does this mean for the Brisbane Showgrounds? It’s predicted the historic development will only continue grow in popularity and entice increasingly large crowds. According to Tourism Research Australia’s National Visitor Survey, Brisbane sees 5.753 million visits from tourists a year. It’s likely King Street will only attract more people to Bowen Hills to experience the suburbs blend of the old and the new.
