A Living Work of Art: Paddington Home Reveals “Considered Details and Timeless Spaces”

Thursday October 8, 2026 ● By Jenna Fearnley // Place HQ

Parquetry, a leopard-print Bisazza splashback, an enclosed terrace and
thoughtfully connected spaces feature in Sophia and Ben Cameron’s 1,166sqm
family home, now on the market after 16 years of ownership.

The Camerons bought the property in 2010 and undertook an extensive three-year renovation with architect Derek Trebilcock, completed in 2013. Sophia spent years planning how the home would accommodate the family’s different life stages, how its levels and gardens would connect, and how each room would feel.

The home was designed so every space has its own identity while remaining part of a connected whole. Now, after 13 years living in the home, Sophia and Ben are right-sizing as their children have grown up and moved away.

“It was really important for me to make choices that were interesting and allowed spaces to have their own identity, while still relating and flowing from one to another,” Sophia said.

“I wanted elements of surprise and interest throughout.”

Views are revealed gradually, with glimpses from the hallway inviting a closer look and changing outlooks making the home feel more expansive.

Sophia ran an interior decoration business for 11 years before turning to painting full time. Her design draws on places she has visited, natural wallcoverings and specific fabrics.

“My interiors approach was all about creating timeless interiors for clients that really spoke about the individual’s personality,” she said.

A parquetry floor sets the tone, while travertine, marble and Italian glass mosaics sit within a base palette of greens, creams and browns. A leopard-print Bisazza splashback adds a playful note to the kitchen, and framed outlooks draw the garden into the interiors. The palette connects the rooms to the surrounding greenery while leaving new owners room to bring in their own art and furnishings.

Beyond the interiors, the home has a relaxed holiday feel. Trees screen the 1,166sqm grounds, birdsong carries through the garden, and the pool, pool house and enclosed terrace offer places to spend the day. Four bedrooms, four bathrooms, lounges on both levels, open offices and a kitchen breakfast nook support everyday family life.

“I’m very excited for the new owners. It’s a home that gives back,” Sophia said. “It’s a delightfully comfortable home to live in and entertain in.”

Place Kangaroo Point Director Simon Caulfield said the home combined a rare land size with a level of detail uncommon in today’s building climate.

“More than 1,100sqm in Paddington is hard to find. The flooring, stone, timber details and individual finishes give the home a character that is distinctly unique and special. Recreating them today would cost significantly more than when the renovation was completed more than 13 years ago,” he said.

Co-agent Courtney Caulfield said the home’s appeal came from the experience of moving through it.

“The views and materials keep drawing you through the house. Every room reveals unexpected details,” she said. “It feels private and peaceful, yet Paddington’s cafés, shops and dining are close by.”

The Paddington precinct is 750m from the home, with local retail and dining 300m away. Brisbane’s CBD is 4.5km away.

The property is being marketed by Place Kangaroo Point Director Simon Caulfield and Courtney Caulfield. Top offers close Tuesday 20 October at 5:00pm.
