Case Study: 25 years of peaceful acreage living

Known for its ability to make you feel at home as soon as you drive through its gates, 'Windemere' is available for sale for the first time in 25 years.

Offering an exclusive 2.92-hectares, and completely surrounded by nature, 457 Brookfield Road, Kenmore Hills is perfect for those seeking a lifestyle reset.

Since purchasing the property in 1997, the vendors of the remarkable home have created many memories in the bespoke space. However, it's time for them to downsize and move on to their exciting new chapter.

"The home makes it very hard to move, but it's time for us to downsize. We have recently settled into our new apartment in West End with our dog, which we are all loving," the vendor of 457 Brookfield Road said.

First purchasing the home from a Buddhist Monk who lived on the property with his family and used the immense space to run his Buddhist and Zen Archery services, the vendor didn't know that she would also be running a business from the home when she moved in.

"I used to be an Occupational Therapist, but two years ago my circumstances changed. I wanted to be able to work close to, or from home, and our home had a huge hall, so I decided to do yoga instructor training as it was something that I was very passionate about. I then became a yoga teacher and ran my classes from there. When I first started teaching, it was a very busy time; I was teaching, looking after my family and we were renovating the house all at once! I will never forget that."

"The renovations were done by Griffin and Knowlman, they were fantastic and definitely made the process easier! A lot of features in the home come from artefacts from the World Expo in 88, which is really special."

As well as running a business from the Kenmore Hills home, the vendor and her family held many events there as it was perfect for entertaining.

"We have hosted an array of events and parties at the home, including Christmas, birthdays, workshops and even a wedding. Of course, the hall was always the central place for our events, but the whole house is fantastic for entertaining. The pool is wonderful, the balcony is spacious and airy and the tennis court is great for the kids and adults," she said.

"A lot of our friends are really sad that they won't be able to come over anymore, but we will make new memories in our new place."

The vendor did not originally want a home with a lot of space, but she's so glad to have been able to enjoy it for many years.

"When we were looking for a home, I originally didn't want all of the space! When my husband first drove into the driveway of the home, he instantly felt at home...He hadn't even looked inside yet!"

"It has that effect on people. Everyone feels at peace when they are in the home, they slow down and they're never in a hurry to leave."

"My favourite feature of the home is sitting out on the swing on the patio and looking out to nature. From any room in the home, you can admire nature as it's all around you. It's also very quiet and you can never hear the traffic!"

Alongside the home being a fantastic place for both entertaining and enjoying the peace and quiet, the vendor said that the supportive Kenmore and Brookfield neighbourhood makes it feel as though you're living in a small country town.

"While it's so close to the city, you really feel like you're out in the country. Just down the road is the Brookfield Hall, where our local community catch up every Friday. We have local volunteers that put on food and drinks for everyone. The community is so close-knit. Although you may not hear your neighbours, there's such a neighbourly feel!"

Vendors and Friends

The vendor hopes that the new owners enjoy the home as much as she has, and although she is sad to leave, she looks forward to seeing the home's new chapter.

"The home is so perfect for multigenerational living. It has a wheelchair ramp and facilities that make wheelchair and disability living really easy. It's also ideal for someone wanting to run a business from the hall, run community services, meditation, a church group or run a retreat from the home."

"I'm going to miss it, but we have made a lot of incredible memories and it's time for us to let go."
