Amber Kamst, Property Management Excellence award

Being a property manager can be a tough but incredibly rewarding job, and one that will rapidly develop your interpersonal, time-management and problem solving skills. The difference a great property manager makes to the lives of tenants and property owners is invaluable, which is why we are committed to growth, education and reward for our property management teams.

We recently caught up with Amber Kamst, one of our incredible property managers with Place New Farm and the most recent recipient of our Property Management Excellence award. Amber shared her tips and tricks for staying motivated and kicking goals.

Tell us about your career in Property Management to date?

I have worked in real estate since 2014. I started in a reception and administration role, then moved into property management. Before Place, I worked at two other agencies and managed many different properties. Joining the team at New Farm was the logical next step in my career.

What do you think is the biggest misconception about being a property manager?

A lot of people may have heard horror stories or had bad experiences of their own in the past so naturally think that we work against tenants all the time. In actual fact, we provide advice to both the owners and tenants and communicate between them!

What would you say to someone considering a career in property management?

I would say that you need to be ready to learn new things and go above and beyond for clients. If you can say that you're ready and eager to do that and join a supportive agency, you'll make it.

What are your top tips for anyone working in property management?

Time management is your best friend! You've also got to be able to show and have empathy for people as well as think outside the box for when tricky situations arise. Lastly, your ability to work in a team and communicate is a must.

What’s your favourite part about being a PM at Place?

The team at Place have made the biggest difference to my career and wellbeing in general. Not just within property management, but also the sales team who we work closely with. We have fantastic leadership structure here, they genuinely care about our career and ongoing progression which is amazing! Oh, and driving the mini's is pretty cool too!

What would you say to a property manager considering joining Place?

That you should! Whether you are stepping into real estate for the first time, or have decades of experience, everyone is so welcoming and happy to help at any point and you'll find your place being surrounded by driven professionals.

What’s next for you in your real estate career?

Right now we're working around the clock for our tenants and landlords who were effected by the floods so taking it day by day however, as a longer term goal, I want to take on managing a team.
