Teneriffe | Good Things Come in Small Packages

Friday March 10, 2017 ● By My Place Our Place

Once a farming and industrial area, Teneriffe’s transformation into a bustling hub of groovy cafes, businesses, bars & restaurants has us all hooked!

Nestled between New Farm and Newstead, there’s something so inviting about the tiny riverside suburb of Teneriffe that leaves us wanting more.

From the iconic red brick architecture of the Woolstore Apartments to the population of designer pooches walking the streets, Teneriffe has an abundance of attractions.

We’ve compiled a list of our fav’s to visit this Saturday at Teneriffe.

7:00am - Morning sweat sesh

After a long week at work, the key to functioning well is… Function Well.

Chuck on your gym gear and get ready to sweat with their variety of CrossFit, strength and endurances classes.

With a unique mentality, Function Well is more than just a gym.

Function Well is based on the ancient Chinese Yin and Yang philosophy, combining the three key elements to health: nutrition, movement and restoration.

8:00am – Food for thought

After your nifty workout it’s time to fuel your body.

Samson & Sophie Café is the perfect hole-in-the-wall eatery, boasting charm.

With its floating tree-trunk benches, ‘secret recipe’ table numbers and ornaments overflowing with fresh herbs, Samson & Sophie has a certain lovable quirkiness.

With a focus on fine, fresh local food, Samson & Sophie’s menu offers something for all your cravings… and making a choice can be seriously tough!

Our go-to is their ‘Bacon Greek Pitta’ – eggs, bacon, thyme & garlic mushrooms, avo and relish all packaged up in a soft warm wrap.

10am - Take a stroll

Hit the Teneriffe boardwalk for a beautiful river stroll.

It’s dubbed one of the best urban walks in the city, lined by leafy trees and the old woolstores - it has an incredibly relaxed ambience.

Many locals will walk their dogs, run, ride their bikes or catch the ferry along this popular stretch.

12:00pm – Feed the lunch time cravings

Located in a warehouse on Helen street, Green Beacon Brewing Co. is the perfect chilled out environment for your Saturday lunch.

The boutique brewery and bar offers unique brews on site perfectly paired with mouth-watering bar snacks.

For something different, Green beacon also hosts a selection of Brissy’s best food trucks!

Word of warning - if you fancy a food truck feast, get in quick!

Everyone is starting to catch on to how yummy they are.

3:00pm – Stretch, breathe, relax

Need to clear your mind after a busy work week?

Located in a funky warehouse off Commercial Road, Teneriffe Yoga specialises in a range of yoga classes targeted at lengthening and strengthening the spine, correcting posture and improving flexibility.

As a relaxing haven away from the busy outside world, we believe that taking some ‘me time’ on your weekend is very important.

6.00pm – Nom, nom, nom!

If you haven’t already had a chance to try one of Beccofino’s delicious meals, then you must.

The restaurant's seasonal menu has an array of delicious Italian meals to sink your teeth into – we give them an A+.

The smell of the fresh wood fired pizzas will get your tummy grumbling.

8:00pm – Let your hair down

After a day dedicated to exercise and healthy eating, we all deserve to let our hair down and have a bit of fun.

The Dalgety Public House outdoor setting is the perfect location to kick-back, relax and catch up with mates.

Dalgety is one of the many heritage-listed sites in Teneriffe and has quite an interesting story behind it – named after the original business ‘Dalgety and Co Ltd’ that occupied the Woolstores over 100 years ago.

That’s something to think about while you enjoy one of their appetising house cocktails!
