Some careers follow a traditional path. Others move a little faster. For Andy Phythian, a career that started at 16 has already taken him from young agent to business owner at 22, with plenty of lessons along the way.
Andy’s introduction to real estate came at 16, and by his 18th birthday he had earned his real estate licence. Those early years gave him a strong foundation in the fundamentals of the industry, while working alongside experienced agents showed him the level of commitment and consistency required to build a successful career.
At 19, Andy stepped into a lead agent role. While the milestone came with plenty of doubt, it also gave him the opportunity to put the lessons from his early career into practice. Prospecting, managing his time effectively and understanding what happens behind the scenes of a sale all became important parts of building momentum.
That experience also shaped Andy’s belief in going all in. For him, success comes from committing fully to the process rather than looking for shortcuts, with strong relationships and human connection remaining at the heart of the business.
As his career progressed, Andy began looking beyond the role of an agent and towards what he could build himself. At 22, that meant taking the step into business ownership and creating an opportunity not only for himself, but for others to grow alongside him.
The transition has come with its own lessons. Andy reflects on his tendency to always chase the next big thing and the importance of learning to enjoy the journey, as well as understanding that competition doesn’t mean losing sight of respect for the people working alongside you in the industry.
Andy’s career may have moved quickly, but his approach is grounded in some of the fundamentals that have guided him from the beginning: commit fully, keep learning and never lose sight of the people behind the transaction.
Tune in to hear Andy’s full story, the lessons he’s learned along the way and how he’s approaching the next stage of his career in real estate.
