Now that the Christmas festivities are behind us, the focus shifts to the second December event: New Year’s Eve.
It’s no secret the river is the place to be in Brisbane, with multiple fireworks displays put on throughout the evening. You may have a local spot you head to every year, but with a host of riverside locations open to the public it is the perfect time to shake up your New Year’s Eve routine.
Manly Harbour Village
If you’d prefer to avoid the crowds and chaos that goes hand in hand with the city, try heading to Manly Harbour for a more low-key New Year’s Eve in Brisbane. Starting at 7pm there are free movies in the park. Kick-start your journey into the new year with Mamma-Mia and its killer ABBA soundtrack! There are plenty of take away options for dinner and two set of fireworks, a very kid friendly 9pm show and again at 12pm to welcome 2019.
Howard Smith Wharves
The new kid on the block, Howard Smith Wharves are the place to be seen in Brisbane this New Year’s Eve. Felon’s Brewing Co. has free entry from 12pm and Mr Percival’s has a ticketed event with a cocktail dress code. Alternative options for the evening include Dinner by the River which includes a three-course meal, the Moet and Chandon lawn and Parkland Picnic with the option to purchase entry to the Arcade – every kid’s dream!
If an evening of dining and dancing sounds like your perfect end to 2018 then look no further than Portside Wharf. Many of the high-quality restaurants are offering package deals including Gusto da Gianni, Byblos and Belvedere Bar N Grill. Follow your meal with dancing and fireworks displays at 8.30pm and again at midnight!
