Inside the Hawthorne design studio, filled with delicate jewellery pieces, unique vintage watches and quirky knickknacks, Carbon Contemporary Jewellery creates beautiful pieces that you’ll treasure forever.

We caught up with the owner, Nick Conroy, who gave us a tour of the Hawthorne workshop and told stories about how he left his job as a labourer to take up an apprenticeship in the art of jewellery making.

As a long-time local resident, Carbon Jewellers opened their doors 15 years ago in Bulimba, after Nick had years of hands-on experience in the art.

When asking Nick about what makes his career so rewarding, the said the customers.

“After 35 years you build up lots of relationships with many different people, and have a whole gaggle of customers”

“A lot of the customers come in become friends, some of them very good friends.”

After flicking through books of sketches, Nick shared with us stories behind some of his really special pieces.
